Water Hammer Lab
In the European aerospace industry, we are regarded as experts in hydrodynamic pipeline testing. Part of our engineering service is the construction of testing equipment, testing and qualification of components and assemblies. Our portfolio contains shock testing, improvement of electrical components as well as pressure and breaking tests, to name but a few.
Water Hammer Test
Water hammer is a pressure impulse or a hydraulic shock. It can be caused when either a fluid or possibly a gas in motion is forced to stop or to suddenly change direction. Liquids are for all practical purposes incompressible which means that any applied energy is instantly transmitted further. This energy becomes dynamic in nature when a force such as quick closing valve or a pump applies velocity to the fluid.
A water hammer can create damaging pressure spikes which lead to blown diaphragms, bellows, seals and gaskets.
The machtTechnik AG test laboratory is engaged in water hammer examinations used in both space- and aircraft propulsion systems. We have also arranged and tested engineering models of complete pipe/valve/regulator/vessel installations. Moreover, subsystems were loaded by water hammer for fatigue tests of single components.
