Abrasion Test of Surfaces with the SANDER
Regardless of whether they are made of glass, plastic or covered with foil – most surfaces are extremely vulnerable to dust and dirt. The consequence of this is fine scratches to the surface, which may well result in a reduction in the quality of the product. For manufacturers of foil coatings, lenses or visors it becomes necessary to conduct constant abrasion tests to improve the properties of the material and to make surfaces more resistant to such weather damage.
In response to this, machtTechnik AG has optimized an approved procedure and implemented the results in the creation of a functional test facility: the Sand-Trickling-Tester (SANDER).
With the SANDER we can offer our customers a test facility which enables the reliable analysis of the abrasive wear of the material and to prepare it for scattered light measurement.
The SANDER is composed of a closed booth, in which sand falls freely with velocities ranging from a few millimeters to a maximum of seven meters per second – on one or several specimen surfaces simultaneously.
The SANDER is qualified for
- wear and scratch resistance testing of:
- flat and curved faces,
- surfaces made out of glass and plastic (e.g. sight glass),
- foils/mirror film
- accelerated life span abrasion and wear test
- specimen preparation according to DIN 52 348.
Adequate materials for the SANDER are granulates and quartz sand with a grain size of between 0.1 and 0.8 millimeters. The facility has a granulate transport system, which allows both batch and continuous operation.
For companies who want to commission testing, our service package is the ideal solution as it includes both the testing as well as detailed documentation of the results. Please do not hesitate to send an inquiry – we would be delighted to help you.
